An entrepreneur from Poltava has taken on the restoration of a historic 19th-century building that he bought from the city. The new owner plans to restore this architectural gem and bring it back to its former glory.

According to local residents, the building had been empty for several decades and remained in a state of disrepair. The entrepreneur decided to take the initiative himself and contribute to the preservation of the city’s historical heritage.

Attempting to reconstruct such an architectural monument requires significant financial and labor costs. However, the entrepreneur believes that it is important not only for his personal satisfaction but also for the restoration and preservation of the city’s history and cultural heritage.

The local community has already expressed its support for this restoration project, considering it a step towards preserving the unique architectural face of the city and creating new opportunities for the development of the cultural and tourism sectors.

Oleg Hardin, an entrepreneur from Poltava, leased a 19th-century building on Pavlenkivska Square and decided not only to restore it to its former glory, but also to improve the surrounding area. According to the decision of the Poltava City Council, the building, which is estimated to be worth about UAH 2.5 million, was purchased from the city for restoration and renovation.

However, according to information from local authorities, the entrepreneur may need about UAH 25 million to restore and improve the territory. This includes restoration of the facade, updating communications, and landscaping the surrounding area with green spaces and recreation areas.

The local community has expressed support for the entrepreneur’s initiative, believing that the restoration of the historical heritage will not only help preserve the cultural face of the city, but also create new opportunities for tourism and cultural development. Oleg Hardin expressed his plans to restore the 19th-century building he purchased on Pavlenkivska Square in Poltava. The businessman intends to turn this historic property into a modern hostel and improve the surrounding area. In addition, he expressed a desire to equip a chess room and create a museum room dedicated to the poet Ivan Steshenko.

The main directions of the building’s restoration and its addition of functional elements will be discussed with the public and the deputy corps. Outline proposals will be presented to the community for discussion, and the work will be carried out depending on the speed of decision-making.

Oleg Hardin warns that the exact scope of work and timing of the building’s restoration will be determined after a specific project is created. It is assumed that the reconstruction process may take about three years.

The two-story building on Pavlenkivska Square in Poltava, built in the 1890s and formerly home to an evening school, now stands with damaged wall cladding and holes in the roof. Since 2009, this historic building has been unused, subject to damage from rainfall and fire.

Entrepreneur Oleh Hardin and his family have been renting the building since 2017 and are committed to restoring and revitalizing this architectural heritage. His plans include the creation of a modern hostel, landscaping, and the creation of cultural and educational spaces, such as a chess room and the Ivan Steshenko Museum Room. An important aspect of the project is community engagement and involvement of the public in discussions and decision-making on the future revival of this historic site.
