German Defense Minister arrives in Ukraine on an unannounced visit

Today, January 14, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius paid an unannounced visit to Ukraine. This was reported by Glavred.

The visit was not made public for security reasons. The German Defense Minister’s plans include a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and government officials. The source reports that “Germany and four other European partners want to strengthen the Ukrainian arms industry.”

Domestic media actively emphasize that Pistorius’ visit to Ukraine comes amid recent news that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is allegedly blocking an additional round of military aid to Ukraine.

By the way, Pistorius himself (as well as the head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Burbock) approves of providing Ukraine with more aid than was planned in the budget. And the other day he denied the information about obstacles from Scholz. The media speculated that the German minister had just arrived to assess the military situation on the ground.
